Grouse Mountain partnered up with Prinoth for the Red Bull Uncorked Project. Prinoth is the company behind the infamous BisonX and the every so popular BR350. For this particular build, Prinoth sent over two of their top machines and we were blessed with BisonX and BisonX Winch. These machines absolutely conquered this build with power and efficiency.
As Shaw Butterworth said to The Discovery Channel, "they're the Ferraris of snow cats".
Here's a little background on the Uncorked build: The initial push all started with cold temperatures in early to mid December and with strategic snow-making placed down the whole course. With that, we set out for the first phase of the build. "We made the equivalent of 30 acres covered in a foot of snow", said Shaw Butterworth. Making this amount of snow gave us the opportunity to really showcase how powerful Grouse Mountain's snow making system and department are.
Next came the pushing and winching of all of the snow in the area. Getting the angles of the landings and spacing in between in each deck perfect was crucial. Too close together, and the setup to hit the next feature is compromised; in other words, no flow. Too far apart, and losing speed becomes an issue.
We had received 5 features from Arena Snow Parks for this project, which included two DF's, DFD, FD and Drop C-rail - 5 brand new features to accompany our 107 already existing features. Getting the features up to the mountaintop was a task on its own. With no way for a truck to drive them up the mountain, we used the trusty old Red Tram to get them up here.
Next came the glorious art of hand-shaping all of the features on course, headed by Park Crew leadhand Mikee French and his merry men. Chainsaws, chaps, laser levels, tape measures and vert shovels - the Park Crew essentials.
This whole process took over 18 days, and most of that time was around the clock. This was by far the biggest build we've done yet, and we'd do it again.
